📦😷 Mercari “From Home” 😷📦
Background: It was March/April of 2020 and the entire country was stuck at home under quarantine. But Mercari — a mobile-first reselling app — was receiving more traffic than ever before because people needed extra money and people finally some time on their hands to declutter garages, closets, and basements.
Brief: To own the moment, Mercari wanted to create and launch a national campaign as quickly as possible!
FROM CONCEPT TO ON-AIR IN UNDER FOUR WEEKS, “Mercari From Home” was remotely pitched, cast, shot, and produced.
(As a bonus, the grid format was great for creating 9x16, 4x3, and 1x1 social video assets.)
The Making Of Video
As you can imagine, the campaign presented a dizzying array of logistical challenges and nobody had ever done anything like it before.
We shipped phones, light kits, and tripods to actors to set up in their homes. We sent them props and choreographed the moves.
Their family members and significant others got in on it, handing them items from off camera.
And somehow, we made a pretty good spot. This is the BTS story of the work…

One of the actors gave an interview describing the experience as
“being under surveillance in my apartment for five hours.”
But all in all, he and everyone involved understood the difficulties of the situation and let’s be honest, everyone was happy to be working in those dark days of early COVID.
